We were invited down to Austin, Texas to take part in the eleventh annual South By Southwest Music Conference and Festival. SXSW brings together thousands of performers, business people and fans for panel discussions, pamphlet-gathering and shmoozing. Not to mention hunting for parking space.

     Highlights of our trip include:

• Our Thursday night performance at Maggie Mae's on Sixth Street.
• An evening of club-hopping on Friday (Guy Clark at La Zona Rosa; Bettie Serveert and Yo La Tengo at Liberty Lunch).
• Seeing some remarkable Austin bands, like Drums And Tuba (who we shared the stage with Thursday), and the Asylum Street Spankers (Friday night at Antone's).
• A visit to the Lyndon B. Johnson Library and Museum (whoever said we were glamourous?).
• Spotting St. Louis's own Beatle Bob.

     Our sincere thanks to Mike and Thomassen (along with Shy Ann) for hosting us during our visit.

     We received welcome web exposure last fall, thanks to Washington City Paper. First we spilled our dirty laundry in their strenuous Pop Quiz. Later, they spent the month of October posting our Tour Diary (see News from 1996).
